Anyway, this one is going to be quick for you. I wanted to share some of my Grandparents' Day ideas with you. I get comments each year that it's the best on they've had and how much they enjoyed really getting to visit with their grandchildren. Here's what we do.
1. Sing, sing, sing cute little songs about grandparents as an entire third grade down in the cafeteria (song info is below). We have grandparents meet us there instead of coming down to the room. This saves grandparents getting lost on the way to the room. It also saves us from grandparents showing up way early and some of the students getting worried when theirs don't show up, even though it's early.
2. The students find their grandparents after we sing and walk them back to our room. Yay! No more lost grandparents.
3. We watch a movie/slideshow made by our class. LOVE it!! I use a really cool (free!) program called Photo Story to do that. I also upload it to our classroom website so students can share it with family members who couldn't make it.
4. After the show, we have the rest of the time to visit. Students read their Amazing Animal Reports to their grandparents, complete family-themed projects together, and then do a mystery picture/graph art if there is extra time. They can also come and go as they please to look at our hallway art or visit the book fair.
It ends up being so e-a-s-y! You can grab some of my ideas and examples here (*updated link*). It's not as fancy as most of my products, but it's a freebie so I don't think you'll mind. =)
There are ever more freebies in the Treats for Teachers linky party so be sure to stop by and grab more goodies.
